“A Little Help Goes A Long Way”
Our Response to Sandesh’s Neurological Disorder
The term neurological disorder applies to a condition that is caused by a dysfunction in the part of the brain all the nervous system resulting in physical on psychological symptoms.
There are various reason for the said disorder which can be acquired but in the case of little Sandesh it was destiny, negligence of our healthcare system or ignorance it is difficult to decide.
Young Sandesh, when he was a little over a year, developed a fever and his parents were ignorant about the fact that uncontrolled fever could lead to Brain Damage.
Further to their lack of understanding, they were so far from medical help that even a simple Crocin was unavailable unless they traveled 10 kilometres to get it
Their below-poverty-line condition made this even more challenging for them, eventually, they rushed him to the hospital only when he developed convulsions but by that time the damage was already done!
Over the years the convulsions have become more frequent and much worse. His mother approached us to intervene and our medical social worker took the child and the mother to Nair Hospital, where he underwent several tests and was finally diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.
Sandesh is now on medication
And his convulsions are rare and much less forceful in nature. It gave us immense satisfaction to see the mother smile.
A big difference has been made in her and the child's lives and we will do our part in providing medicines and any other assistance required.

Cataract Surgery
Sangita Kamble was referred to us and our medical social worker reached out to her and figured that she urgently needed a cataract surgery which she had put off for a year due to the pandemic and lack of finance..
Her vision was drastically compromised and due to her poor financial status she couldn't afford the surgery.
We evaluated her need and after we were satisfied our Medical Social Worker team coordinated and made arrangements with a leading Opthalmologist and Surgeon , Dr. Vasani who successfully operated cataract surgery of both her eyes ..
Her smile on her face was fulfilling enough for us for yet another success story achieved by IREF.
We would like to thank Rtn. Dr. Sunil Vasani , for his continued support to IREF and remain deeply grateful to him.

Auto rickshaw driver Rahul Singh’s daughter Trisha was operated for congenital heart disease six months prior to the lockdown in one of the hospitals in Mumbai and he is now in debts up to his nose and pays an exorbitant sum as monthly interest.
He was referred to IREF and we sent him to a cardiac consultant at the Wadia Hospital where Trisha received nebulization and a 2D echo test to check the condition of the heart.
On the fortunate day Rahul got talking to the lady who boarded his rickshaw about his troubles and how Trisha was having complaints about pain in the chest.
Due to high consultation fees he could not afford to visit the cardiac surgeon to find out what was going wrong.
Trisha was put on medication and in two days time was in the pink of health.
Rahul expressed his gratitude multiple times and travelled all the way from Ghatkopar to Bhayandar only to thank our social worker to whom he had so far only spoken to over the phone.
The entire expenses were borne by IREF.
